PF International Rotax ABkC Round 4: 10.7.05
NEWSLETTER
Tristram Oman (Max) and Sam Bennett (Juniors) enjoyed lights to flag
victories, and Andrew Tooley almost so in Minis, only behind for a few
hundred metres. But the driving standards in the morning heats were deemed
very poor, especially in Max, resulting in a special briefing.
ABkC MiniMax
Heat winners: Andrew Tooley, Jamie Little, Tooley, Tom Grice, Devon Modell.
B Final: Ross Makar, Alex Widdrington, Robert Foster-Jones, Ryan Cooper.
A Final: Gemma Stephenson arrowed up to 2nd to slot in behind Tooley, demoting Jamie Little and then Tooley for a short while before slipping back into the frantic 3rd place fight. Modell out-psyched Jordan Chamberlain into the chicane in the dying seconds of the race, with Stephenson also sneaking past for her first S1 podium. Jack Harvey was another mid-grid starter, topping out at 6th but Modell is ahead overall.
Results: Tooley, Modell, Stephenson, Chamberlain, Little, Harvey.
ABkC Rotax Junior UK
Qualifying: Adam Christo (46.51), Sam Bennett, David Sutton.
Heat winners: Christo, Bennett, Lewis Williamson, Daniel Lloyd, Bennett, Matty Tipping.
B Final: Mitchell Bayer-Goldman, Richard Mitcham, Lewis Brown, Luciano Bacheta.
A Final: Bennett broke clear of Tipping, Greg Harper and Thomas Arme. Then Tipping was shown the black flag after an indiscreet move, ending his chances. Harper set off after the leader but Arme was unable to hold on, and neither could Jack Hawksworth. One that was on the move though was Christo. He only started on the 7th row on account of pitting to tighten a loose wheel in a heat, but was soon picking everyone off as he visibly shrunk down the gaps with higher corner speeds. As he took Arme and Harper in quick succession, Bennett was starting to be worried but hung on for the win. Harper holds a slender series points lead.
Results: Bennett, Christo, Harper, Arme, Jack Hawksworth, Williamson.
ABkC Rotax Max
Qualifying: Dan Holland (46.14), Kimi Sato, Dean Waters.
Heat winners: Tristram Oman, Waters, Adam Charnley, Jason Edwards, Jedd Cooke, Ian Rumbold.
B Final: Alastair Jackson, Marcus Weller, Cooke, Daniel Russell.
A Final: Oman took the hole shot from the start with Waters tucking in behind, whilst Holland was squeezed out to 5th from 2. Waters closed briefly on the leader only for Oman to respond and eke out a cushion. Raymie Eastwood lost a bundle of places in favour of Glen Denny amongst the frantic scrap for third. In fact Chris Trott was hammering up the order from grid ten heading for third, despite being temporarily embroiled in a fight with Holland, before both took Denny. Oman has vaulted to the top of the points table.
Results: Oman, Waters, Trott, Holland, Glen Denny, Iain Inglis.
Trent Tales
All drivers were called to a special lunch break briefing to be given a
severe admonishment on their driving conduct which was described as
atrocious by the Clerks. The drivers were told that black flags would be
used without any prior warning flags, the alternative being to cancel the
meeting.
Lewis Reeves was put to the back of the MiniMax B Final after it was
adjudged he had not slowed the race sufficiently during a black & yellow
flag situation. Then Philip Gynn and William Masters were put to the back of
the Juniors ‘B’ when, despite a warning, they accelerated well before the
start line and green light. Gynn was then black flagged during the race.
The Junior Rotax tyres were kept in parc fermé throughout the meeting, to
prevent any further allegations of the use of tyre softeners.
The 2004 Rotax Junior and MiniMax championship trophies were awarded during the lunch break, Adam Christodoulou having a unique double victory.
