Shenington MSA/ABkC Round 5: 11.09.05

NEWSLETTER

Congratulations to our three new champions.  Mark Litchfield retained his British crown in Formula A after two dramatic finals.  Will Stevens (JICA), and Matthew Bell (ICA) clinched their titles in the first finals, no less exciting.  Justin Edgar (100 National) and Mackenzie Taylor (Cadet) did not need to race at all, having sewn up their titles already.

Elf/B4/Renault MSA British Kart Championship

Qualifying (Wet): Riki Christodoulou (47.27s), Jason Parrott, Mark Litchfield, Alex Sharper, Chris Brown.

Heat 1: Christo, Chris Rogers, Parrott.

Heat 2: Litchfield, Parrott, Craig Copeland.

Final 1: This race was one of the all-time greats.  Christo carved his way up to lead from a 13th start place after a heat seizure, joining Catt, Litchfield, Parrott and Rogers in a frantic place-changing last few laps.  As Catt led the last lap, Christo’s final move lost him three places and the title, with the others slicing past.

Results Final 1: Catt, Litchfield, Parrott, Rogers, Christo.

Final 2: Litchfield only needed a top three place but cheekily nipped past Catt on the last corner.  Christo established himself in the lead early in the race, hardly challenged.

Results Final 2: Christo, Litchfield, Catt, Parrott, Rogers.

Elf/B4/Renault MSA British Junior Kart Champs

Qualifying (Wet): Scott Jenkins (48.85s), Oliver Rowland, Ollie Millroy, Nigel Moore, Will Stevens.

Heat 1: Moore, Jenkins, Rowland.

Heat 2: Stevens, Moore, Richard Bradley.

Final 1: After the early jostling for position, Stevens’ lead was cut into by Moore, who won, but Stevens 2nd was enough to clinch the title without him racing again.  Rowland’s challenge was thwarted by an ailing engine, although he managed to hang onto 4th.

Results Final 1: Moore, Stevens, Bradley, Rowland, Jenkins.

Final 2: Bradley and Jenkins tangled out of the lead, then with a new engine Rowland caught and passed Moore to win.  Matt Truelove stormed up from grid 11 for 3rd.

Results Final 2: Rowland, Moore, Truelove, Ollie Millroy, Jenkins.

Elf/B4/Renault ABkC ICA

Qualifying (Wet): Matthew Bell (47.2), Tom Armour, Richard Singleton, Danny Cruttenden, Jason Gardner.

Heat 1: Armour, Bell, Cruttenden.

Heat 2: Singleton, Jonathan Miller, Armour.

Heat 3: Singleton, Jonathan Walker, Richard Kent.

Final 1:  Singleton was reeled in by Cruttenden after the latter had flown past Bell with little resistance.  Bell’s 3rd was good enough for the title, and he didn’t need to go back out either.

Results Final 1: Singleton, Cruttenden, Bell, Kent, Miller.

Final 2:  Again Cruttenden caught Singleton, this time passing for the lead.  Singleton fought back in the chicane, and they crossed the line together.  Henry Arundel made the podium after Kent lost places mid-race.

Results Final 2: Singleton, Cruttenden, Arundel, Walker, Benjy Russell.

Elf/B4 ABkC 100 National

Heat winners: James Russell, Scott Baines, Alex Morgan.

A Final: In a race of attrition, and although down to 6th at the start, Russell kept his head for a first S1 win from early leaders Dane Smith and Steele.  Martin Smith led off the start, but faded to 4th.

Results: Russell, Dane Smith, Steele, Martin Smith, Baines.

Elf/B4 ABkC Formula Cadet

Heat winners: Nicholas Cristofaro x 2, James Godbehere, Ashley Jones.

A Final: Cristofaro and Max Goff traded the early lead. Jones was pushed wide at Wilkins to the back of the second group but valiantly recovered to win, gaining a small cushion on the last lap as Goff fended off the rest.  Cristofaro faded to 8th, the back of the lead group.

Results: Jones, Goff, Warburton, Shaun Pirie, Jacob Stilp.

Shenington Snippets

Whilst Friday was sunny, and there was some dry running on Saturday, all qualifying was wet.  The circuit dried out on Sunday by mid-day.

Gary Catt had to come from the back of the heats after failing to complete a timed qualifying lap.
