ELF HILL HOUSE HAMMOND S1 SENIOR SERIES: PF INTERNATIONAL

SENIOR S1 ROUND 2: 9.5.99

Stevie Morris sped to a great double victory at PF International's round of the British Kart Championship to take over the head of the points table. The Tecno mounted driver had earlier topped timed qualifying with Lars Sexton, Susie Stoddart, Dean Panrucker, Michael Spencer and Matthew Griffin all within a tenth. Morris' two heat wins earned him pole with Spencer alongside after two seconds. Not for a long while has a female driver won a Super One Formula A race, but Susie Stoddart confidently moved ahead of Spencer in heat two and stayed there, for third on the grid. Within a couple of corners Morris took Spencer for the lead in final one, opening out a small cushion. Michael Conway dropped away from third to sixth as Dean Panrucker, rapidly recovering from his grid nine start, then Stoddart and Neil Doran moved through. Again Spencer came off the start line first in the second final and again Morris soon moved through to lead, with Panrucker slotting in behind. Five karts came off at the first corner with Stoddart delayed big time. Spencer just held off Lars Sexton, up from winning the repechage, and explained his dilemma: "My front tyres just went totally off a few laps into the second final." James Wright and Justin Edgar were right there too. Renault Sport driver Tom Ferrier came back to defend his ICA crown, and won from Mike Mills and Jay Howard after early leader Dean Haddon fell to fourth when Fraser Sheader lunged but came off. Asked if karting helps his race car driving, Ferrier commented: "They both have steering wheels, that's all". Pushing leader Chris Lamare onto the grass at the last corner cost Graham Hill his second fine of £50 and a five place penalty in TKM. Martyn Bond gratefully slipped through for the adjusted win, from Lamare and Daniel Chapman. Mansel Smith took his first Super One win in Formula 100C, from Kato Adams and Jonathan Hunter, with Gareth Hession a little way back.
