ELF HILL HOUSE HAMMOND S1 SENIOR SERIES: CLAY PIGEON

SENIOR S1 ROUND 1: 29.8.99

Stevie Morris and Michael Spencer took a win apiece at the Clay Pigeon round of the British Kart Championships, but the result of the second final remains provisional. In the first final Spencer shadowed Morris, but seemed unable to find just enough extra pace to challenge for the win. However in the second the two traded the lead, Morris ahead entering the last lap, but just leaving the door open enough for Spencer to find a gap. The karts touched briefly, but Spencer was through for the Formula A win, albeit to meet a protest from his rival. This was won and Spencer was docked one place. He appealed to restore the win, however it is now likely to go to the MSA and it could be the outcome of the British Championship will be determined in the tribunal room, with only one round to go. Michael Conway was third in the first final, and Dean Panrucker third in the second. Jamie Green was excluded from the first final and the whole meeting because his overall rear wheel width was over the limit. This gives him no chance of climbing further up the points table, as he has to count this zero score. Simon Short was excluded from the first final because of a discrepancy in his scrutineering card. A massive fourteen kart pile-up marred the start of the Formula 100C final but Gareth Hession and Stewart Baker left this behind them as they diced for the lead. Baker tracked Hession only to have his big end let go on the last lap, Phil Hill inheriting from Andrew Gosling in third. Adrian Coles won the Formula TKM final, after a lunge from Adrian Crockett put leader Lee Piercey back to eighteenth. Crockett hung on for second, Daniel Chapman following. Fraser Sheader broke free of the pack, headed by Jay Howard, to win the Intercontinental A race, with Mike Mills in third. Mark Litchfield was well placed until his engine seized on the last corner. The first start was abandoned after a mighty crash at the start.
