ELF HILL HOUSE HAMMOND S1 JUNIOR SERIES: ROWRAH

JUNIOR S1 ROUND 3 (4): 25.7.99

Frantic racing led to wins for Oliver Jarvis and Alex Lloyd in the JICA Junior British Kart Championships, but Jarvis was excluded from race two at a post race judicial inquiry for allegedly knocking off Ed Tilley. Chris Rogers looked to have the pace at the Super One's first visit to the extended Rowrah track, and topped timed qualifying from Alex Lloyd. Points leader Jarvis languished in fifth, behind Ed Tilley and Ben Hanley but managed one heat win to Rogers two. As the race started, Rogers grabbed the lead from Hanley and Jarvis, but Paul di Resta, newly back from his Junior European Green helmet podium, was tapped into a spin at the first corner, several others piling in. Lloyd made his move on Rogers half way through, with Jarvis taking up the attack as Rogers started to suffer from a broken rear bumper, dropping to third. A few lead swaps later, Jarvis held the top position when it mattered for pole in the second final, Hanley stopping right at the end. The next time Rogers looked very much in command, a series of mishaps pushing Jarvis back down to fifth, the early clash with Ed Tilley earning him exclusion later. However Lloyd was biding his time. "I watched the other races", he commented, "and noticed there was always a gap on the last corner." His brilliant move on the last lap earned him his first Super One win. Despite his exclusion, Jarvis still comfortably leads the championship with five wins under his belt.

News Minis

John Byrne did not appear for the Rowrah round of the Super One, apparently giving up the challenge after only amassing enough points for ninth place.

Kristopher Baillie fell foul of the noise meter at Rowrah in timed qualifying, after briefly taking provisional pole, the time later bettered by only seven others. His times were disallowed, banishing him to the back of the heat grids from where he bravely fought back for two sevenths.
