February Press Release 2001 TOTAL-Hill House Hammond S1 National Kart Championships SUPER 1 EXPANDS TO BE BIGGEST & BEST EVER Total Joins Hill House Hammond As Title Sponsor For Premier Talent Finding Kart Series Super 1, Britains premier karting championships, will be bigger and better than ever in 2001 with a new title, expanded classes, new format and additional race meetings. The Total-Hill House Hammond S1 National Championships is the new title for the series, with the Total brand name replacing that of its sister Elf company though Elf fuels and lubricants will continue to be used within karting and S1. The other main title sponsor is Hill House Hammond Insurance Services, which continues its long association with the series and also puts its name to the two Motor Sports Association classes for British Junior and Senior titles. Tal-Ko continues its long running support for S1 as does control fuel supplier Atol and a host of other smaller sponsors including tyre companies who help take the prize value for the championships to well past the £50,000 mark. A record entry of around 550 drivers makes it the biggest S1 series ever with Rotax Max junior and senior classes added for the first time this year. The Yamaha class has been dropped because of its poor entry level. Formula TKM is again the largest category with a massive entry for Junior and Senior requiring qualifiers and more than 30 in Intermediates. The format of the series has undergone a change in line with competitor needs. The Irish round for JICA and Formula A has been dropped but in its place there are now a total of eight senior rounds and six junior. All junior classes will race at all junior rounds, though the JICAs have an extra senior round at Three Sisters in May. Meanwhile in Senior there is a rota of classes that will have two rounds off for each class except FA which has just one round off. Theres also a change in format to allow for more race time and give the teams a better chance of getting their set up right for timed practice in both JICA and FA. These two classes will now qualify late on Saturday afternoon at the end of testing in traditional 3 lap format. Also introduced for the first time is timed qualifying for the ICA class which will be held on Sunday morning and will effectively replace their first heat. The system has been introduced at driver request and will take the form of two 10 minute sessions with drivers drawing for which session they go in. They can do as many laps as they wish but set up adjustments within the pits or on circuit will not be allowed. The Total-Hill House Hammond series will again feature strongly on TV with an end of year compilation video. Final details of the coverage spread are currently being finalised with UK and world-wide satellite coverage already guaranteed. Newsletters and communication with competitors will be continued and increased, while an upgraded level of PR activity will provide further promotional opportunities for drivers under the guidance of experienced motor sport PR specialist Impact Public Relations. Other features include a new information and presentation centre as well as the introduction of a new driver conduct format. Neil Hann, the man behind the series says: S1 is bigger and better in a number of ways and looks forward to a highly successful year. We welcome Total as a new joint title sponsor with Hill House Hammond, and say a big thank you to those companies who have continued the support which has enabled S1 to maintain its own growth. We look forward to some great racing. Provisional calendar: Qualifiers Feb 25
