Hill House Hammond MSA British Junior Kart Champs

Qualifying: Hanley, di Resta, Tilley, Parkes, Love, Gonzales, Breen, Kirkpatrick, Mitchell, Brunton.

Ben Hanley took home the winner’s trophy in a curtailed first round of the top Junior event, the second final being cancelled. (See later). He topped qualifying by .02s from Paul di Resta, the two tie-ing for pole, each with a win and second.  Ed Tilley, 3rd fastest, dropped a heat after his carb flooded but he went on to win the repercharge. Thomas Wedgwood, Kris Bailey and Tom Russell joined Tilley in the final.  Russell Love’s heat win took him to grid three for the first final with Venezuelan Rodolfo Gonzales’ excellent results putting him on four, his highest ever placing.

Paul di Resta briefly snatched the lead from Hanley on the second lap but was unable to maintain the pace, complaining later of an engine down on bottom end.  His second became third when Russell Love took him in the bus-stop, Gonzales and Russell Parkes hard on his bumper.  Love slung his kart up the inside to take the lead, but only for a lap as Hanley re-asserted himself to cross the line first.

Result: Hanley, Love, di Resta, Gonzales, Kirkpatrick, Parkes

ABkC Formula Cadet

Heat winners: Sims, Rowbottom, Oakes, Martin-Dye (twice). B Final: Lancaster, Malvern, Rosenzweig, Crankshaw.

Freddie Martin-Dye, Alexander Sims and Jordan Oakes battled mightily in the Cadets, each enjoying a spell in the lead.  Martin-Dye said later: “I was pushed wide across the grass, but was really determined to get back and win.”  He clinched it on the last lap, with a move at the hairpin on Sims, with Oakes next up.  Jon Lancaster came all the way from the B Final to seventh.

Result: Martin-Dye, Sims, Oakes, Rowbottom, Morgan, Adam Christodoulo

ABkC  TKM Junior Intermediate

Heat winners: Parsons, Walsh, Johnson, Lane. B Final: Glover, Cobbing, Wilde, Barrow.

Ian Parsons and Alex Mortimer resumed battle in TKM Inters after a red flag, but Mortimer was demoted by Stephen Lane and Luke Johnson.

Result: Parsons, Lane, Johnson, Mortimer, Higham, Roe.

ABkC Formula Junior TKM

Heat winners: Onslow-Cole, Lovell, McDonald, Thorpe, Robertson, Wilson.  B Final: Sutton, Coombes, Furner, Haysey.

Red flags took away Daryl McDonald’s handy lead in the final.  George Lovell got the jump at the single file restart and went onto win as McDonald’s repass was negated on the count-back by yet another red flag.

Result: Lovell, McDonald, Cruttenden, Onslow-Cole, Barden, Thorpe.

Formula Junior Yamaha

Heat winners: Bean, Anderson, Turvey.

Oliver Turvey claimed a fairly untroubled win, leaving James Bean trailing.  Martin Plowman battled past Walker-Hansell, Allin and Anderson for third.

Result: Turvey, Bean, Plowman, Anderson, Allin, Walker-Hansell

Kimbolton Comment…

Two nasty accidents within a few minutes of each other had both ambulances going to hospital leaving no cover. With time running out there was no option but to cancel the second JICA final. The MSA title will now be decided from 11 out of 13 rounds.

Good to report that both injured TKM drivers, Kevin Glover and Jonathan Adam were allowed home after treatment.

James Taylor and Randal Lynn were both excluded from the meeting for TKM technical infringements, the former having the wrong exhaust cap, and the latter a modified restrictor plate.

Senior News from Three Sisters

The first senior round was a cracker, with more competition in Formula A than for years.  Stevie Morris won the first final from Dean Panrucker, the positions reversed in the second with Michael Spencer third in both.  Chris Lamare won Formula TKM from Daniel Chapman and Andrew Taylor.  In 100C a tangle off the line gave Stewart Baker a huge lead from James Whitby and Kato Adams, whilst in Champion ICA, newcomer Iain Inglis took pole and the win from Terry Langley and Kevin Crook.  The rest – they can’t wait until Fulbeck!
