Buckmore Park Juniors Final Round

Many congratulations to our new Junior Champions, Ben Hanley (JICA), Alexander Sims (Cadet), Paul Wilson (Junior TKM), Luke Johnson ( TKM Intermediate) and Oliver Turvey (Yamaha).

A new MSA contract…

S1 has been awarded the Senior and Junior MSA British Championships for a further three years, ending the recent rumour and speculation. Sponsors Elf/Atol, Hill House Hammond and Tal-Ko have pledged support.

A number of changes are planned for the series including a revision of classes, a fresh look at timed qualifying and some promotional upgrades. Neil Hann said: "We want to keep the same elements which have made the series such a success but at the same time revise some areas to keep moving forwards as the sport itself comes of age and classes develop."

Over its two decades Super One has proved a real star-maker. Top drivers such as David Coulthard, Johnny Herbert, Jenson Button, Dario Franchitti and Jason Plato all came to fame through the series.

The S1 Annual Trophy Presentation will be held at Donington Museum on Jan 20th.

TV coverage will continue with coverage of the last rounds on Fastrax Sky Sports.

Thanks to all competitors, officials, sponsors, clubs and teams for your support in 2000.

Hill House Hammond MSA British Junior Kart Champs

Qualifying: The drying track favoured the later runners putting Paul di Resta on pole from Ian Johnstone, Russell Parkes and Tom Russell. Russell Love was somewhere in the middle after an early draw. No time for Gonzalez with a brake problem. Hanley did not race having clinched the title. Heats: In the first, early leader di Resta dropped to third, the win going to Russell Love from Russell Parkes. In the second, di Resta split the two.

Final 1: Love was on a roll, and easily won the first final. Russell Parkes and di Resta squabbed over second, coming together at the last corner with Parkes losing his chain. Niall Breen came through for third on the line from Adam King and Liam Walters. Result: Love, di Resta, Breen, King, Walters, Batch.

Final 2: Love was again dominant, though caught by Breen in the dying stages, whilst di Resta slipped back to fifth, having clinched vice-champion with his first result. Third on the road Tom Russell was docked five places for passing Adam King on a yellow, letting Ian Johnstone into third from Jordan Wise. Gonzalez crashed out on lap one. Result: Love, Breen, Johnstone, Wise, di Resta, King.

ABkC Formula Cadet

Heat Wins: Martin-Dye x 2, R. Christodoulou, Metcalfe.

A Final: New champion Alexander Sims also declined to risk racing, leaving the lead in the final to be continually swapped between a lead foursome. Jeremy Metcalfe took the win after a fine drive through from the sixth row of the grid. Riki Christodoulou nosed past Freddie Martin-Dye over the line, Craig Dolby in fourth. This gave Martin-Dye the vice-champion position. Result: Metcalfe, R. Christodoulou, Martin-Dye, Dolby, A. Christodoulou, Storey.

ABkC Formula Junior TKM

Heat wins: Lovell. McDonald, Onslow-Cole x 2, Barden.

B Final: Smith, Renwick, Coombes, Haysey.

A Final: Paul Wilson had settled the title with his heat results, which was just as well as he was involved in a first turn pile-up. Thomas Onslow-Cole was the early leader, but the lead passed to first Danny Cruttenden and then eventual winner Daryl McDonald. Samuel Hill and James Sutton contested second for a while but dropped back in favour of Cruttenden, whilst Jonathan Robertson sped up from grid 16 to third. Result: McDonald, Cruttenden, Robertson, Barden, Onslow-Cole, Hill.

ABkC TKM Junior Intermediate

Heat wins: Mortimer, Cobbing, Johnson, Higham.

A Final: All the championship contenders were up front except Ian Parsons who suffered two off’s in the heats. Micky Higham, Luke Johnson and Alex Mortimer contested the lead, finishing in that order, which gave Johnson the championship over Mortimer. Stephen Lane finished a lonely fourth, with Ben Hitch taking Ray Cobbing on the last lap. Results: Higham, Johnson, Mortimer, Lane, Hitch, Cobbing

Formula Junior Yamaha

Heat Wins: English, Anderson x 2.

A Final: Turvey did not need to do the final, after Bean suffered a heat exclusion. Jack Anderson won from Walker-Hansell and Bean. Results: Anderson, Walker-Hansell, Bean, English, Allin.
