TKM ELLOUGH PARK ROUND 1/6 23.3.08
Unfortunately the meeting was abandoned on the instructions of the MSA Steward after 8 heats.
Gerry Blythe said: "The track conditions deteriorated during the day and the drivers were not driving
to the conditions, so following a serious accident, attributable to the conditions, I decided enough was enough.
The safety of the young people is my chief concern."

The snow started falling about 9 am but was not lying, however it was very cold, just above zero, and spray, standing
water off to the side of the track being dragged on meant conditions were very poor. The meeting was abandoned
just after 1 pm following an accident involving Danny Graham. Soon afterwards the precipitation eased, and the sun
came out briefly at 2.45 pm. Many thanks to Richard Lock and all the officials and organisers for putting so much
effort into the meeting. According to the regulations, the series will now be counted with the best 4 scores out of 5.
(This is a personal view by Graham Smith, not by the organisers)

Promoter Neil Hann’s statement:

The Super One Series very much regrets the decision taken by the MSA Steward to abandon Round 1 of the TKM series at Ellough Park. Although the decision to stop the racing at the time may have been correct, the Steward could well have suspended the proceedings for an hour or so, and the reviewed the situation, when in fact the weather had cleared and the track conditions improved, we could then have at least finished the heats and everyone would have had a result for the event instead of nothing. Despite us requesting this action from the MSA Steward he took it upon himself to abandon the event there and then and there was nothing whatsoever we could do. We will be writing to the MSA over this matter as we do not feel due consideration was given to the competitors who had already spent two days at the circuit and many hundreds of pounds to compete. Obviously safety has to be the prime consideration, but in this case there was plenty of time available and to take such a rash decision so early in the day, when in fact the weather forecast was for almost an immediate improvement, was just not necessary.   We can only hope that such an unfortunate incident does not happen again. I want to extend best wishes from me and all the officials to Daniel Graham, for a speedy recovery from his injuries and thanks to Richard Lock and his team for all their hard work for what would have been a very successful meeting if not for the unfortunate intervention.
